Team — every one of us played college tennis

Charly Zick

Founder & Recruiting Expert

I played four years of college tennis in the US myself and know both sides of recruiting – from a player’s perspective and from working closely with college coaches.

I founded College Tennis Zick in 2020. Since then, we’ve successfully placed players across a wide range of levels – from women at WTA 400 level and men from the top 30 of the German rankings to players with an LK of 18. Today, our players benefit from a network of more than 2,700 college coaches.

As founder, I help my team give every player the best possible individual support. I guide the process from building the application profile and developing the right college target strategy all the way to the final decision – because not every college is the best fit for a player’s athletic, academic and personal goals.

Luzia Obermeier

Women’s College Recruiting Expert

I played college tennis at Western Carolina University in North Carolina and at Saint Leo University in Florida.

I still play on a team today. Besides tennis, I love running, playing padel and volleyball, and skiing in the winter.

My time in college was an incredibly exciting experience, and I learned so much. I’d recommend college tennis to anyone in a heartbeat.

Martin Müller

Placement & Eligibility Expert

I studied at the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky while playing college tennis. I earned bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and in Exercise & Sport Science there, followed by a master’s in Project Management.

Today, I play in the Austrian Tennis Bundesliga. In my free time, I play golf, love to travel and am a big ice hockey fan.

If you have the chance to play college tennis in the US, I can only recommend it. You combine studying, competitive sport and life in an international environment – an extraordinary opportunity to grow as a person.

Tim Handel

Placement & Eligibility Expert

I played college tennis at Northern Arizona University and achieved a lot in Division 1. In the ITA rankings, I reached No. 71 in singles and No. 25 in doubles.

I was also successful on the ATP Tour, with career-high rankings of No. 362 in singles and No. 414 in doubles. When I’m not on the tennis court, I enjoy playing golf.

I recommend college tennis to players at every level. You’ll find perfect training conditions and a strong environment where you can grow both as an athlete and as a person.

Philip Röttger

Social Media & Events Expert

I’m 26 and played high school tennis in Vancouver, Canada. I loved that time, and it helped me grow a lot as a person.

I’ve been part of College Tennis Zick since 2021 and take care of everything around video shoots, social media and marketing.

I still spend a lot of time on the tennis court, I’m really into soccer and a huge FC Bayern Munich fan. In my free time, I love heading out to the mountains. And by the way, you’ll rarely see me in a bad mood.

Darius Elia Kuster

Social Media & Events Expert

I play college tennis at the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky. I earned a bachelor’s in Exercise & Sport Science and Business Administration there and am currently in the MBA program. On the court, I was named ITA All-American and First Team All-Conference.

In my free time, I go cycling, love to travel and learn languages.

I can only recommend the college tennis path to every young player: the level has risen significantly during my time there, nowhere else can you combine studying with a demanding training load this well, and with teammates from all over the world you build friendships that last far beyond college.

Magnus Hauska

Events & Partner Management Expert

I spent my college career at three schools in the US: Missouri Valley College in Missouri, Southwestern College in Kansas and Thomas More University in Kentucky.

I’m passionate about almost every sport, whether it’s tennis, soccer, handball, football or skiing.

For me, college tennis is a key step in finding yourself and growing as a person. Today, I pass that conviction on to young players.

Lars Kirchhoff

Athletic Performance & Physical Preparation Expert

I’m a tennis and strength & conditioning coach focused on physical preparation and long-term player development in tennis. For several years, I’ve worked with nationally and internationally successful juniors and pros, including ATP/WTA top-100 players, top-30 doubles players and top-10 ITF juniors.

I’m the strength & conditioning coach at T2 Tennis Academy and work with players individually in Germany and abroad. I also work with college players and college programs in the US. Outside of tennis, I’m into soccer and skiing.

For me, college tennis is an incredibly exciting way to combine competitive sport and academic education. Especially from a long-term development perspective, the college system offers many young tennis players a professional training environment, strong competition and, at the same time, the chance to grow beyond tennis.
